Indian Institute of Astrophysics invites application from eligible candidates for following courses for academic year 2011
Applications are invited for admission to the following programmes:

1. Ph.D  (jointly with Pondicherry University)

2. Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D Programme in Physics and Astrophysics in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

3. Integrated M.Tech-Ph.D (Tech.) Programme in Astronomical Instrumentation in collaboration with University of Calcutta (CU)

Eligibility:
BSc in Mathematics and Physics for Integrated Ph.D. courses OR B.E. / B.Tech.

MSc/Integrated MSc OR ME/M.Tech. Integrated ME/M.Tech OR M.Phil for Ph.D. Programmes

For Integrated M-Tech.- PhD: BE/B.Tech. in Applied Physics/Engg Physics, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Photonics/Optics/Opto-electronics OR

B.Tech. (Post BSc Hons.) in Optics and Optoelectronics, Radio Physics and Electronics, Applied Physics, Computer Science, Electronics, Instrumentation

Candidates who obtained their last degree (qualifying degree) before 2008 are not eligible to apply.

Ramalingaswami Re-Entry Fellowship -201, Department of Biotechnology Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India

Ramalingaswami Re-Entry Fellowship
           
Government of India Department of Biotechnology Ministry of Science & Technology

Applications are invited for “Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship”, a re-entry scheme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

Objective

1.         The scheme is aimed at bringing back researchers (Indian nationals) working overseas in various fields of biotechnology, including  agriculture, health sciences, bio-engineering, energy, environment, bioinformatics and other related areas, who are desirous of pursing R&D in an Indian institution.

Eligibility

  1. The applicant should possess a Ph.D., MD or equivalent degree with an outstanding track record as reflected in publications and other recognitions.

  1. Only candidates (Indian nationals) working overseas are eligible to apply. Those who have already returned to India and are working in India are not eligible.

  1. The upper age limit for applying is 55 years as on 31st August, 2011.


About the fellowship

  • Selected awardees will receive a fellowship amount of Rs. 75,000/ pm (consolidated) and House Rent Allowance of Rs. 7,500/- p.m. wherever host institute provides accommodation to the fellow, the HRA amount will be deducted by the institution. Besides, each fellow will also receive research/contingency grant of Rs. 5,00,000/ year for purchase of consumables, minor equipment, international  and domestic  travel, engaging manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project.

  • Host institutes are encouraged to provide medical benefits, transport allowance, leave travel allowance and other benifits as per their prevailing norms as applicable to their employees of the rank equivalent to Scientist D out of their own resources/ funds.

  • In case an awardee finds a suitable permanent position during the tenure of the fellowship  at any research institute/ university, he or she can take up the job.  In that case, he/she will have to opt for either the fellowship or salary. However, she/he can continue to avail the research /contingency grant with prior approval of DBT.

  • Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellows could take up fellowship at any of the scientific institutes/ university in the country. However, application should be duly forwarded by the competent authority of the host Institute.

  • Awardees are eligible to apply for research grants to any of the funding agencies.  However, the Co-PI has to be a permanent employee of the host institution. 

Duration

The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of five years.  This is extendable by another 5 years on a fresh appraisal of performance.
