Pune: Secondary schools in the city and neighboring Pimpri Chinchwad have collectively registered an overall success rate of 87.17% in the secondary school certificate (SSC, Std X) exam 2012. The result is 2% better than the 85.12 pass percentage by Pune division, which covers Pune, Solapur and Ahmednagar district.
While Pune city's overall success (fresh and repeater candidates) is
86.54%, the same for Pimpri Chinchwad is 88.83%. Together, they account for 501
of the total 1,299 secondary schools that participated in the SSC March 2012
examination from Pune district.
The online SSC results were declared by the Maharashtra state board for
secondary and higher secondary education on June 13 but, the mark sheets were
issued to individual students on Friday.The Pune divisional board released
details of how the secondary schools under the three districts as well as the
talukas performed in the exam.
Pune division,which was first among the then eight divisional boards in
the state last year, came second after the newly established Konkan division
this year.Of the total 57,823 students appeared from 501 secondary schools in
Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, 50,401 students have been declared passed. This
works out to an overall success of 87.17%.
Pune city, which has been divided in two segments i.e. west and east,
had total 359 secondary schools participating in the exam. A total of 20,422
students appeared from the 160 secondary schools in Pune city-west segment and
17,943 of them were declared passed. Similarly, 21,800 students appeared from
the 199 secondary schools in Pune city-east segment and 18,600 students were
declared passed. Together, Pune city accounted for 42,222 appeared students and
36,543 cleared the exam for a pass percentage of 86.54 for the city.
In Pimpri Chinchwad, 15,601 students appeared from 142 secondary schools
and 13,858 cleared the exam for an overall success of 88.83% for the
twin-industrial township.
As many as 129 schools in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad finished with 100%
result i.e. all students appearing from these schools have cleared the
exam. Of these, 86 schools are in Pune city and another 43 in Pimpri
Chinchwad.
Pune division was second only to Mumbai in terms of the number of
schools with 100% result across the state. While Mumbai division had 682 such
schools, Pune division had 639 schools of which 332 are in Pune district and
another 142 and 165 in Ahmednagar and Solapur districts, respectively. Pune
district also had five schools which recorded zero per cent result.
In all, 1,134 out of the 1,299 secondary schools in Pune district
finished with a result in excess of 80%. In Pune city most prominent schools
performed exceedingly well with their results in the 90%-plus slot. This has
been due to the high-scoring performance by students.
WHAT AILS CIS A major problem with the CIS is that
the student, who takes the CIS option has to forego an entire year of studies.
Apart from going through the SSC studies all over again, there is no guarantee
that the student will score better than his/her first exam score
