Profiteering schools may face action

Action will be initiated against educational institutes on government land indulging in profiteering, said school education minister Rajendra Darda. He was replying to a calling attention motion in the legislative assembly on Wednesday. The issue of closing down of civic schools and state board schools adopting the ICSE and CBSE course content was raised by MNS legislator Nitin Sardesai. Minority institutions were forcing children to learn Tamil and Kannada, which has affected the academic year of 150 Marathi students, Sardesai claimed.Darda said the committee set up to review the closure of civic schools will hold its first meeting next week. Between 2009-2010 and 2011-2012,17 civic primary schools had closed down, while seven new private schools were commissioned, Darda added
