Autonomous CAP round 2012

Autonomous, regular engg college admissions clubbed

Admissions to autonomous engineering institutions have been clubbed with the regular ones this year.

So far, seats have been allotted in the autonomous institutes first and the other colleges after that. Now, students will have to provide mixed options on their forms once the centralized admission process (CAP) begins. Admissions to both categories of colleges are conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

Last year, seats in some autonomous colleges remained vacant even after the CAP rounds. To ensure that this is not repeated, it has been decided to have both the admissions together.

While filling the admission forms, students would have to give mixed options of colleges. For example, the first two options could be for courses in autonomous colleges and the next three for non-autonomous institutes. Students can select a minimum of three and a maximum of 100 courses in the first round; in the second round, it will be one and 100,respectively.
After close to 200 seats went vacant at an autonomous college in Nanded last year, the authorities decided to combine the two options. Several other colleges also had seats vacant in courses that were not too popular.

After the two options are combined, seats in autonomous colleges will also be available for admission in the second round. This will help ensure that the seats are not left vacant.
D Meshram, joint director (DTE),said : After listing their choices in the first round, students will have the benefit of a mock allotment. This will give them an idea about the type of college where they can get a seat autonomous or non-autonomous. If the allotment does not match their expectations, they can then change the option accordingly after the mock allotment process.

Last day of engineering e-registration today

Students aspiring to get into engineering colleges were supposed to register online till June 28.However,the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has extended the date till June 30 (Saturday) to ensure that more students are able to register.

There are more than 1.5 lakh seats available. However, we have got applications from only 1.14 lakh students. So, students who have not managed to register due to the non-availability of relevant documents can do so till June 30, said an official, adding that the DTE is expecting the number of applications to go up.
