MBA admission racket busted,2 engineers held

Gang Took 15L For A Seat In Narsee Monjee


The city crime branch claimed to have busted an MBA admission racket with the arrest of six persons, including two engineering graduates.
The accused took Rs 15 lakh from each of the aspirants and promised to get them a seat in Narsee
Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) without appearing for the entrance examination.

The accused would provide dummy candidates to sit for the entrance exams, said an investigating officer.Of the 87 candidates for whom the accused provided dummy candidates,61 managed to secure admissions. These impersonators managed to score high marks in the entrance tests,thereby securing admissions for their clients, the officer added.
Sixty nine thousand candidates took the test this year.

NMIMS vice-chancellor Rajan Saxena said the photographs of 75 candidates taken at the time of the online exam were different from those attached with form for subsequent personal interviews. NMIMS conducts entrance exams across 20 cities in the country.

Alok Kumar,a BTech in chemical engineering and a faculty member with a institute in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh,Hanumant Singh Gujar,also a BTech,and his brother Sugriv Singh Gujar acted as mediators. The three other mediators from UP and DelhiPavan Kumar,Himanshu Shekar and Brajendra Pratap Singhhave also been arrested.All have been booked for cheating, forgery,breach of trust and under the Information Technology Act.They have been remanded in police custody till May 5.

A couple of educational consultancies and two coaching classes Career Guardian in Ghaziabad and Meta Consultancy in Delhihave come under the police scanner.

The accused have reportedly admitted to having arranged dummy candidates for students appearing for GMAT and CAT exams as well.NMIMS is taking legal opinion on what action can be taken against students who got admitted to the institute through this racket and are now working, said inspector Deepak Patangre.

The accused have been operating this racket for three years, said joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy.
